iPhone: Screen Time access

Rewire uses Apple's Screen Time to lock apps and to show your own figures. Apple asks once; if it was refused, the prompt will not come back on its own.

Turn it on in Settings → Screen Time → Apps with Screen Time Access, then open Rewire again. The banner at the top of Home takes you there too.

Android: the three permissions

Rewire asks for three, and the setup screen ticks them off:

Usage access — so Rewire can tell which app is in front. Settings → Apps → Special app access → Usage access → Rewire.
Display over other apps — so the block screen can appear. Settings → Apps → Special app access → Display over other apps → Rewire.
Unrestricted battery use — so the phone does not stop the blocker. Settings → Apps → Rewire → Battery → Unrestricted.

The first two are required for blocking. The third is not, but without it many phones stop Rewire in the background.

Why Rewire cannot show my figures on iPhone

On iPhone, screen-time numbers can only be drawn by Apple's own report inside the app. Rewire reserves the space and Apple fills it in, which is why the number appears a moment after the screen does, and why Rewire itself never has a copy.

Blocking stopped working on Android

Rewire watches which app is in front through a service that has to keep running. Several phone makers stop background apps to save battery, and when that happens blocking simply stops, with nothing on screen to say so. Keeping the "Rewire is active" notification visible is normal and is what keeps the service alive.

Samsung

Settings → Battery → Background usage limits: make sure Rewire is not in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps.
Settings → Apps → Rewire → Battery → Unrestricted.
Turn off "Put unused apps to sleep" if Rewire keeps stopping.

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO

Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Rewire → Autostart: on.
Same screen → Battery saver → No restrictions.
In Recents, pull Rewire down and tap the lock so clearing apps does not close it.

OPPO, realme and OnePlus

Settings → Battery → Rewire → allow background running.
Settings → Apps → Rewire → allow auto launch.
Turn off any "smart" or "deep" power saving for Rewire.

Huawei, Honor and Vivo

Battery → App launch: switch Rewire to manage manually, and allow auto-launch, secondary launch and background running.
Add Rewire to the protected or high-background apps list.

Cancelling a subscription

Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, or it renews. You keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for.

iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Rewire → Cancel subscription.
Android: Play Store → your picture → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Rewire → Cancel.

Refunds are Apple's and Google's to give, through reportaproblem.apple.com or Google Play's help.

Restoring a purchase

If Premium is missing after reinstalling, on a new phone, or after signing in, open Profile → Restore purchases. Use the same Apple ID or Google account you bought it with.

This is also the answer when you used Rewire without an account, bought a subscription, and then installed it again: the purchase belongs to your store account, and restoring brings it back.

Moving to a new phone

Create an account before you switch, then sign in on the new phone with "I already have an account". Your goal, activities, earned minutes and lessons come back.

Two things do not travel. On iPhone, the list of locked apps stays on the old phone — Apple keeps it in a form no app can read — so pick them again, which Rewire asks you to do as you sign in. And screen time itself comes from the new phone, not from us.

Signing up with an email address needs the confirmation link before the first sign-in works. Check spam.
Too many attempts in a row are refused for a while. Wait an hour and try again.
Signing in with Apple or Google keeps the progress you already had as a guest.
